Sanitarium Responds to Independent Weet-Bix Glyphosate Testing

Following the publication of our independent Weet-Bix testing results, No More Glyphosate NZ published an Open Letter to Sanitarium outlining a number of questions and concerns arising from the findings.

Sanitarium subsequently responded to that letter, outlining its position regarding food safety, regulatory compliance, supplier standards, and the testing of finished products.

In the interests of transparency, we are publishing the company’s response in full below so readers can review it for themselves.

Response received from the Sanitarium Media Team on Friday, 22 May 2026.

The response below is reproduced in full and unedited, except for formatting.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views and results.

At Sanitarium, we understand that trust in food – how it is grown, produced and delivered – matters deeply to families, particularly for products like Weet-Bix that are part of everyday routines. We recognise the expectations people have of brands like ours, and we take those expectations seriously.

Our team will carefully review the independent testing results you have published. We note that, across the range of cereal products tested, the majority of samples returned results well below the laboratory reporting limit or at very low levels, including both branded and supermarket wheat biscuit products.

Food safety is and will always be our priority. All Weet-Bix products meet the requirements of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Code, which is based on robust scientific assessment to help ensure food is safe to eat. We routinely test our finished products to confirm they are well within these strict limits. Like all grain-based foods, Weet-Bix is made from crops grown using widely accepted and regulated farming practices, where trace residues can sometimes occur at levels considered safe by independent authorities.

Sanitarium is committed to working with trusted suppliers and maintaining strong quality and safety standards across our products. We will continue to listen to consumer and community perspectives as expectations evolve, and to play our part in supporting confidence in the food system.

We appreciate the opportunity to engage on this topic and remain focused on providing nutritious, safe, and trusted foods for New Zealand families.

We appreciate Sanitarium taking the time to respond.

Readers will draw their own conclusions from both the independent laboratory results and Sanitarium’s response. Our goal remains simple: to provide transparent information so New Zealanders can make informed choices and ask informed questions about the food system.
